The Largest Canyon

The Largest Canyon - The Grand Canyon

Considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Cayon is a tourist attraction visited by thousands of tourists annually and is the largest canyon in the world.

The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona, western U.S.. To get there the ideal is to take as its starting point the city of Flagstaff, and then heading north on Highway 180 and then by 64. From Flagstaff to the entrance of Grand Canyon National Park is 90 minutes by car.

Its valley was shaped by the Colorado River for thousands of years as its waters roamed the bed, deepening the over 446 km.

Comes to measuring between 6 and 29 km wide and reaches depths of 1600 meters.About 2 billion years of geologic history of the Earth were exposed by the river, as it and its tributaries will exposing layer after layer of sediment.

The Grand Canyon was first seen by a European in 1540, the Spaniard Garcia Lopez de Cardenas. The first scientific expedition to the canyon was led by Major John Wesley Powell in the late 1870s.

You pay a fee to access the park, and if you want to do this tour in the summer months, expect to find probable congestion ahead, because many people go there at this time.Beside the stone tower known as the Watch Tower, situated about 20 km east of the main entrance, and 2260 m above sea level.

Operation of the canyon can be done in several ways. The basic tour is walking the trails that border the edge of the cliff, while the script is more rustic the descent to the bottom of the canyon on mules, on excursions organized by park management.

The only problem is that this ride mules is very popular and places are just making it necessary to make reservations well in advance is preferable to one year before the date of your visit.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a glass walkway and steel, opened in 2007 after much controversy and his idea is to give visitors the feeling of walking in space, on the Grand Canyon.

The platform is embedded in the rock, over 1000 meters high from the bottom of the canyon and in fact provides an incredible view, although completely clash with the natural scenery around.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is located west of Grand Canyon Village, in another part of the canyon known as Grand Canyon West, far from the entrance to the park.
