The Highest Churches

1 - Ulm Cathedral - Ulm - Germany - 161.53 meters.

   Completed in 1890, was designed to be smaller, but the size increased in order to overcome the Cologne Cathedral, the second largest Gothic church in Germany.



2 - Cathedral of Lincoln - Lincoln - England - 159.5 meters.
     Completed in 1311, is a historic cathedral. She was the tallest building in the world for 249 years (1300-1549). The tip of the central tower was destroyed in 1549 and not rebuilt.


3 - Church of St. Olav - Tallinn - Estonia - 123 meters.
   It was completed in 1519, had a tower destroyed by lightning in 1625, was the tallest building in the world from 1543 to 1625.


4 - Basilica of A. Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro - Yamoussoukro - Ivory Coast - 158 meters.
    Completed in 1989, is the Greater Catholic Church the world's largest church dome in the world and the Catholic church the world's highest.


5 - Cologne Cathedral - Cologne - Germany - 157.4 meters.
    Completed in 1880, was the tallest building in the world from 1880 to 1884, is the largest Gothic church in Germany and the highest Catholic cathedral in the world.


6 - Saint-Pierre Cathedral - Beauvais - France - 153 meters.
    Partially completed in 1569, a tower was destroyed in 1593. His initial project was not fully completed.


7 - Notre-Dame de Rouen Cathedral - Rouen - France - 151 meters.
     Completed in 1876, was the tallest building in the world from 1876 to 1880, is the largest church in France.


8 - St Paul Cathedral - London - England - 150 meters.
    Completed in 1240, the tower was destroyed by lightning in 1561 and the cathedral was totally destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666.


9 - Church of St. Nikolai - Hamburg - Germany - 147.3 meters.
    Completed in 1847, was the tallest building in the world from 1847 to 1876, the rest of the church was bombed in 1943 - there was only one tower.


10 - Cathedral of Strasbourg - Strasbourg - France - 144 meters.
     Completed in 1439, was the tallest building in the world from 1625 to 1847.
