The Highest Road



The Highest Road - Kardung La

  Step Khardung La, in the territory of Kashmir, India, the road is passable to vehicleshighest in the world with an incredible 5682 meters above sea level at its highest.


   Khardung La is located in a mountain region of LadakhJammu and Kashmir, India.

  The passage in the Ladakh Range lies north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok andNubra valleys.


    Built in 1976was open to vehicles in 1988 and has since received many adventurers of cars, motorcycles and mountain biking expeditions.

   The pass is strategically important for India as it is used to carry supplies to the SiachenGlacier.


    One of the most visited places by tourists in Ladakh is obviously Khardung Step-LA, which is about 100 km from Lehin Kashmir.

     When someone approaches Khardung La, even in the summer months, the mountainson both sides are covered by a blanket of snow and strong winds and consistent.

  The first 24 km, until the checkpoint Pullu Southare pavedFrom there until thecheckpoint North Pullu about 15 km beyond the pass road is mainly of loose stones.


     The road is closed annually from October to May due to snow and should considerpossible delays in travel due to traffic congestion in a narrow lane, landslides, mudslides and road accidents.

    Tibetans offer various stops along the way stocked with food and water and basic alsooffer cheap accommodations.
